What are the advantages of biomass gasification?
Gasification is one of the promising new technologies for generating electricity from solid fuels or biomass, such as wood, organic waste and agricultural residues. The biomass gasification process uses heat, pressure and partial combustion, which occurs when the air supply (O2) is not sufficient to complete the combustion. The use of biomass energy can provide a double benefit: reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and increased fuel security, as it is often produced locally.
What are the advantages of biomass gasification?
1.Available everywhere: Biomass-based electricity can be used anywhere, which is very promising for remote villages that do not have access to the grid but have a lot of biomass
2.Carbon neutral: Unlike coal and other forms of fossil fuels that add carbon to the atmosphere when burned, biomass-based power generation does not create new carbon emissions or pollution
3.Efficient use of renewable biological resources: biomass power generation is an efficient process for using animal and agricultural waste
4.Wide variety of raw materials: A wide variety of raw materials such as wood chips, rice husks and bagasse can be used to produce biomass energy
5.Methane reduction: The use of biomass for power generation can reduce the amount of methane in the atmosphere. Methane is the cause of the greenhouse effect, and with biomass production, the gas content is reduced.
6.Low cost resource: compared to grid costs, biomass power can be produced economically if feedstock is in sufficient supply
7.Advantages over other renewable energy sources: Unlike wind or solar power, which depend on available sunlight or wind, energy from biomass is not intermittent. Using biomass gas such as rice husk, wood chips, sawdust, coconut husk, bagasse, crop straw and olive pomace to generate electricity not only saves electricity from the production costs of rice mills, wood processing plants, farms and plantations, but also benefits from the sale of surplus electricity to the grid.
8.The engine and generator and electrical equipment should be placed indoors, while other equipment can be placed outdoors. The floor space for each 200kw generator set is about 40-50m2.
9.The self-consumption rate of the full set of equipment is only 5~8% of the electricity generated. Therefore, it is an ideal project with significant benefits for areas with abundant biomass resources but insufficient power supply or high electricity costs.
10.Generally speaking, the investment in the main equipment can be recovered from the power generation revenue in the first two years. The equipment is safe and reliable in operation, easy to be mastered by operating technicians, and maintenance work is similar to that of ordinary diesel generators.
